MORALE BOOSTER OF THE WEEK

Sunshine Committee Helps Employees Connect

-------------------------------------------------------

One of the best ways to insure employee loyalty is to help employees connect and feel that others care. This is especially important when employees have either happy or sad events going on in their personal lives.

10 THINGS A SUNSHINE COMMITTEE CAN DO

1. Send a, "We Missed You" card to an employee who is out sick.

2. Visit an employee who is in the hospital - or who has an immediate family member in the hospital

3. Send a "Sympathy" card to an employee who has had a death in the family.

4. Send an "Encouragement" card to an employee who is experiencing difficult times at home.

5. Pass out "Smiley Face Stickers" to employees at unexpected times.

6. Put a bouquet of balloons on the door or cubicle of someone celebrating a birthday.

7. Hang an, "Ask me about my grandbaby" sign around the neck of a new grandma or grandpa.

8. Hold a baby shower for an expectant mom.

9. Create a bulletin board where employees can post their kids' accomplishments.

10. Send a "Congratulations" card when employees or their family members accomplish something special.

HOW TO SET UP YOUR COMMITTEE

Ask for volunteers for a sunshine committee. Switch committee members every 3-6 months to keep up enthusiasm for the job.

Create a way for people to let the Sunshine committee know what's going on - such as a
Sunshine box where people can write their news. Committee members can also wear a Sunshine Pin or a Sunshine Sticker on their name tag.

CREATING CONFIDENCE

M.Y.O.B.

-------------------------------------------------------

By Harriet Meyerson

Are you so busy focusing on other people's problems and trying to fix them that you neglect yourself and have no time to develop your own talents?

Many people are continually frustrated because someone they care about is self-destructive. No matter how hard they try to help, they just can't seem to get that person stop their self-destructive behavior.

When you take care of others to the extent that you neglect taking care of yourself, nobody benefits. You feel emotionally drained most of the time, and the situation remains the same.

This doesn't mean that you shouldn't help someone during a crisis. It's when another person's life is a continual crisis that it drains your energy and keeps you from enjoying life. The secret is to learn to care about people without having to take care of them if they are capable of taking care of themselves.

M.Y.O.B (Mind Your Own Business) is a way of reminding you that you have a responsibility to take care of yourself and develop your own talents. You then become a role model and an inspiration for others. Your enthusiasm and energy will create a life that others will want to emulate.

NURSES DAY - MAY 6-12

-------------------------------------------------------

National Nurses Day is always celebrated May 6th and opens National Nurses Week, May 6-12. National Nurses Week concludes on the birthdate of Florence Nightingale.

If you know a nurse, have a family member who is a nurse, or want to thank your doctor's office nurses, send cards to let them know that you appreciate their dedication to the care of others.
