RAISING MORALE - HOW TO BE HAPPY AT WORK

An Easy Way to Start an Employee Newsletter

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An easy way to help employees bond and build company loyalty is to create an employee newsletter - written by the employees, themselves. Employees will look forward to writing and reading their own newsletter and feel more like they are all one big family. Follow these simple steps

DECIDE THE FOLLOWING:

How often will you print the newsletter? Monthly, every other month, or quarterly.

Who will write the newsletter? You may want to assign responsibility to a different committee for each issue. That way nobody is overburdened. To start, it's best to have a supervisor head each committee.

Who will receive the newsletter?

How will you distribute the newsletter?

How will you print the newsletter? - Most can be done on a company computer and copier. For very large distributions a copy store may be better. Decide how many pages you want the newsletter to be. This can also vary from issue to issue.

What will you write about? Here are some suggestions.

***REGULAR COLUMNS***

(written by the committee responsible for the issue

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT - where you write a column about the life of a specific employee

EMPLOYEE BRAGS - Announcements about births, graduations, marriages, promotions, etc of employees' families

BIRTHDAYS - List any employee who has a birthday that month

ANNIVERSARIES - Any employee who has a work anniversary

WHAT'S NEW - Any news employees should be aware of.

***OPTIONAL ARTICLES ***

(contributed by anyone. Be sure to write "Contributed by, or Written by below every title. People love to see their name in print.)

Recipes

Movie and Theater reviews

Word puzzles

Sports

Poetry

Inspirational stories

Etc., Etc., Etc.,

To spark enthusiasm and excitement start out by having a contest to name the paper.

BUILDING CONFIDENCE

How Writing Thank You Notes Can Build Your Confidence

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most everybody knows they should write a thank you note when given a present, but not many people realize that writing thank you notes also builds your confidence. Here's why.

HOW WRITING THANK YOU NOTES BUILDS YOUR OWN CONFIDENCE

  • It makes you feel worthy - because you are acknowledging that you are important enough for someone to give you a gift.

  • It makes you feel connected to the person who gave you the gift. You are giving something in return, your appreciation, to complete the connection.

  • It gives you an opportunity to express how much the relationship means to you. Something some people may feel uncomfortable expressing in words.

  • It gives you the power to make the gift giver feel special.

  • It gives you a positive outlook, because you are focusing on gratitude.

So instead of feeling like you did as a kid when your mother made you write your "Thank You Notes," look forward to writing your way to a more confident you.
