RAISING MORALE
Draw Out Your Employee's Fears
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suggested by Jill Turner of Proxy Communications
Jill wrote, "Our staff took one of your suggestions following the September 11th tragedy that was really successful! We got out all of our markers, colored paper and other art supplies, and everyone wrote up their feelings and comments about the tragedy. Many of our staff have a real talent for drawing, so they also drew pictures representing their feelings. The results completely covered a huge bulletin board that we have in our breakroom, and are still up since everyone seems to enjoy them so much."
Stressful events are still occuring in our nation, and Jill's activity can be expanded to cover all the fears people have relating to the terrorism acts - from job security, fear of flying, concern about our soldiers, to safety of the mail. Expressing feelings through the shared experience of art can help your people feel connected with each other. Expressing feelings lowers stress by getting fears out in the open where they can be dealt with rationally.

BUILDING CONFIDENCE
Leadership Lesson#6
Raising Morale at Work
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Even if you are not a supervisor there are many things you can do to raise morale at work. Social Activities, Appreciation, and Personal Development opportunities are the three main morale boosting needs.
Show appreciation to your co-workers and your supervisor with homebaked cookies, thank you notes, or inexpensive surprises.
Help plan pot luck lunches.
Celebrate birthdays.
Decorate for holidays.
Bring in articles on health, happiness, productivity, to share with co-workers.
Post the WORD, QUESTION, AND QUOTE OF THE WEEK where others will see it.
Form a committee of people interested in raising morale. Look over past newsletters posted at www.ConfidenceCenter.com for creative ideas. Make suggestions for activities to your supervisor.
You do not have to be in a leadership position to act like a leader. Taking the initiative in improving morale will build your confidence at work and develop your leadership skills.
*** Learn more about raising morale in chapter 6 of the new book, "The Leadership Path," a compilation of advice from 12 experts in the field of leadership. See order information below.
