RAISING RAISING MORALE

Kindness Week

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We all want to live with understanding, respect, and kindness. To do this we must learn to communicate with kindness even when we are going through difficult times. Planning a "Kindness Week" now can add a positive element to your office life.

WHAT TO DO

Give everyone a stack of "Kindness" cards to give to co-workers whom they hear talking in a kind manner. Put two blank lines on the card - one for the giver's name and one for the recipient's name. Cards can then be turned in for free gifts or treats from the company snack bar.

Remind everyone of the little things that make a difference - like simply saying "Please" and "Thank you."

Explain that sarcastic remarks, ridiculing jokes, gossip, and hostile tones of voice among employees attack people's spirit and self-esteem. Instead, a difference of opinion or problem between two people can be discussed in a quiet way with kindness and respect. Kindness cards can be given to each other when a discussion of a problem leads to understanding or a possible solution.

BUILDING CONFIDENCE

Seven Things You Can Do When You are Angry or Frightened

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

People are frightened and angry over the terrorist attack on our nation. People feel out of control. What should we do with all this anger, fear and negative energy?

1. Attack your closets. (We cleaned out all the closets in our house, and our garage has never looked so good.)

2. Do good deeds. You will be putting your energy into a positive activity.

3. Write your feelings down on paper. This will keep them from going around and around in your brain, and you will be better able to concentrate.

4. Talk to people about your feelings.

5. Take care of yourself. Get enough sleep, eat properly and exercise.

6. Have a daily routine.

7. Have a spiritual outlet.
