And Build Personal Confidence
May 14, 2001 - ISSUE#51

WORDS OF WISDOM
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WORD OF THE WEEK
*** EFFICIENCY ***
WORD OF THE WEEK ACTIVITY
*** 1. Ask yourself if you are doing something that doesn't even need to be done.
2. When you have decided the task needs to be done, allow yourself enough time to complete it. Have all your tools and information handy. Put up a "Do not disturb" sign on your door, and transfer your calls. Then work on the job until it's completed. This way you avoid the extra time it takes to set things up a second time and to refocus your concentration.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK
*** Besides salary and benefits, what are the best things about your job? ***
QUESTION OF THE WEEK ACTIVITY
*** List the things you have learned, the people you have worked with, and the special times at work that have enhanced your life. These things are your bonus even if it isn't in the form of a paycheck. (Put everyone's lists on the staff bulletin board or in the employee newsletter.)
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
*** "A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle." Father James Keller (1900-1977)

RAISING RAISING MORALE
You're Worth a Pound of Gold Reward

Idea contributed by several members of NORTEX
Here's a delicious way to make your employees feel valued and appreciated. Buy Hershey's Nuggets that are wrapped in gold paper, or any candy wrapped in gold paper. Put the candy in a clear plastic bag. Write a thank you note on an index card that has been folded in half and punch a hole in the corner. Tie it to the bag using gold ribbon . Give these bags to deserving employees. These "Pound of Gold" rewards will be treasured by your employees.

BUILDING CONFIDENCE
Increase Your Creativity
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Being creative is a very easy way to build your confidence. When you have create something out of nothing it gives you an incredible feeling of excitement and enthusiasm. You don't have to be skilled or talented to create something. Start with easy things.
Create your own recipe. Go to a crafts store and buy a craft kit that allows for individuality. Compose a song about someone you know by changing the lyrics to a popular song. Write a children's story, and read it to a child. Sculpture something out of clay. Buy a sketch book, and draw pictures of your family, pet, house, favorite vacation, etc. Make some beaded jewelry.
When you are part of the creative process you feel much more alive and confident because you are expressing and valuing your uniqueness.
