Easy Ways to Raise Employee Morale

And Build Personal Confidence

May 7, 2001 - ISSUE#50

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WORDS OF WISDOM

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WORD OF THE WEEK

*** POWER ***

WORD OF THE WEEK ACTIVITY

*** There are two types of power. Power others have given you and the power you feel from within. Divide a sheet of paper in half. On one side list the powers others have given you either at work or in your personal life. On the other side list the powers you feel from within you. What differences do you see between the two? ***

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

*** Why is it easier for us to worry than to be hopeful? ***

QUESTION OF THE WEEK ACTIVITY

*** List all your worries on a sheet of paper leaving several blank lines below each one. Below each worry write a hopeful description of what you really want to happen. Then draw an X through your worry. Whenever you find yourself worrying, read your hopeful statements.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

*** "Only those who risk going too far will ever know how far they can go"

Contributed by Paulette Wagner

For the employee with unfaltering loyalty who can always be counted upon to do the job well give the "Rock Award."

1. Take a rock about six inches long and four to six inches high and spray paint it gold.

2. Write "With Appreciation to (employee's name), the date, and your company name" on the rock with a black or blue marking pen.

3. Decorate the rock with gold glitter.

RELATIONSHIP CONFIDENCE

Share Personal Stories

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Getting to know people on a personal level builds strong relationships. Many people at work only know each other on a superficial level. Even friends who have known each other many years may not know a lot about each other. They only see one facet of what is a diamond with many facets. Story telling is a great way to create more meaningful relationships and to see the other facets of your friends and co-workers.

Storytelling can take place informally when two people go to lunch or at a meeting where each person is given two or three minutes for their story. Here are some ideas for stories:

=> When I Was Seven Years Old (Where you lived, with whom, pets, school, favorite thing to do, etc.)

=> My Courage Experience (Where you overcame great obstacles and achieved your goal.)

=> My Favorite Relative (Someone you admire who has taught you something about life.)

=> My Best Vacation (Can be anytime in your life)

=> My Happiest Moment (Can be anytime in your life)

=> My Favorite Way to Have Fun

=> My Interest In _____. (Your hobby, life mission, community project, charity, etc.)

*** From the "Relationship Magic" workshop/seminar.
