MORALE BOOSTER OF THE WEEK

Talent Auction

-------------------------------------------------------

If your company doesn't have a lot of extra money for your morale boosting budget, here's a creative fundraiser employees can hold.

TALENT AUCTION

Everyone is good at something, and some people have very special talents.
Have employees each write one thing they are willing to donate - be specific about the amount of time. Here are some ideas:

  • Two hours handyman work at your home
  • Help with learning a computer program
  • Bake a decorated cake for a special occasion
  • Be a magician at your child's birthday party
  • Wash and wax your car
  • Address your Christmas Card list
  • Help you with your sales presentation
  • Teach you a foreign language
  • Paint a room in your house
  • Cook a meal for your family
  • Teach you how to do a craft

HOW TO PRESENT YOUR AUCTION ITEMS

Write each item on a separate paper with the person's name and minimum bid.
Leave several blank lines for people to outbid each other.
On auction day have a pot luck lunch and give everyone 60 seconds to talk about their item. Then allow people to walk around the table where the papers have been placed to bid for their co-worker's talents. After a designated time - say 30 minutes - announce the winners. Give the winner a certificate for the item in exchange for payment.

HOW TO HANDLE THE MONEY
Be sure to check out ahead of time how to deal with the money. Your company may want to set up a separate account, etc. You will want to tell people to whom they should write their checks.

FOLLOW UP
Be sure to let everyone know how much money was raised and what it will be used for.hoose some of these days to celebrate or plan a theme around.

1. Write a letter of encouragement to a friend.

2. Bring a bouquet of flowers to someone who is ill.

3. Give the grocery store checker a $1.00 tip.

4. Offer to take those who cannot drive to a doctor's appointment, grocery store, or church.

5. Offer to take care of your neighbor's children for a few hours to give the mom some time to herself.

6. Pay the toll fee for the car behind you.

7. Bake cookies for a friend.

8. Mow your neighbor's lawn.
